I still can’t believe it, but it happened. Microsoft has announced the Datacenter Region Austria-East. Soon there will be Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Dynamics 365 hosted in Austria.
On October 20th, 2020, Microsoft President Brad Smith, the Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz and Dorothee Ritz, General Manager of Microsoft Austria hold a press conference at the Austrian Federal Chancellery.
The Government also announced the establishment of a “Center of Digital Excellence”. This should help to modernize the IT infrastructure and the use of IT in public services. As part of the center, the Ministry of Economics wants to set up a cybersecurity network together with Microsoft.
The Microsoft Datacenter Austria will join Microsoft’s global-scale cloud and will provide companies local access to Microsoft’s full set of cloud services:
- Microsoft Azure: An ever-expanding set of cloud services that offers computing, networking, databases, analytics, AI and IoT services.
- Microsoft 365: The world’s productivity cloud that delivers best-of-breed productivity apps integrated through cloud services and delivered as part of an open platform for business processes.
- Dynamics 365 and Power Platform: The next generation of intelligent business applications that enable organizations to grow, evolve and transform to meet the needs of customers and capture new opportunities.
Currently there are 64 regions announced, with Microsoft Azure available in over 140 countries.
I am really looking forward to start using cloud services hosted in Austria 🙂
